3rd Annual 7.7K Road Race Recap
June 8 – This past weekend, we hosted our 3rd Annual Bourque Family Foundation 7.7K Road Race as a virtual event. We were thrilled to welcome nearly 500 runners and walkers to our virtual platform to support our initiative to assist those who most need it during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since 2017, the Bourque Family Foundation has had the opportunity to donate to the ALS Association Pete Frates Home Health Initiative, the Matthew H. Weatherbee Irrevocable Trust, Melmark New England, The Jimmy Fund and the National Brain Tumor Society among many others. Due to the current situation our society is experiencing, the Bourque Family Foundation felt it was important to assist those fighting this pandemic on the front line. Proceeds from this year’s race will support the Massachusetts Nurses Association and their efforts to keep our nurses safe and healthy during this pandemic so they can continue to care for those who need them most.
Although a hot and humid weekend, our racers got outside and hustled to support the Massachusetts Nurses Association. We were honored to kick off our Virtual 7.7K with a video from National Anthem singer, Todd Angilly to keep tradition alive. It was great to not only include participants who come each year, but to be able to invite runners from all over the globe to be a part of the Virtual 7.7K. We had runners from Newfoundland to Paris providing their support.
Racers will receive a custom finisher medal and a commemorative event t-shirt in the mail following the race. The beloved Post Race Party was held on Facebook live, including music by returning musician, Franciox Simard. A favorite aspect of this event is enjoying time together and it was incredible to be able to keep this interaction as part of the event, even while being distant.
